About the data

Works, location, receiving water: Environment Agency, Consented Discharges to Controlled Waters with Conditions, August 2026 extract: 348 active Thames Water permits for treated final effluent at sites the EA types as treatment works. The dot is the final-effluent outfall. Receiving water is as the permit records it.

PE: population equivalent from the register (UWWTD 2022, Works col F) where held; otherwise the UWWTD 2018 return. Works under 2,000 PE do not report; the size filter treats them as under 2,000. PE is a load measure including trade effluent, not Thames's "population served".

Evidence layers and the Evidence section of each popup are read from the supporting register of 2 October 2026 () and the AMP7-to-AMP8 delays workbook (), joined on the EA permit number. Counts beside each layer are distinct register works. Press items are what the papers reported, not findings. Inspection counts describe what the Agency recorded where it chose to inspect, not the estate.

Consented DWF is the permitted dry-weather flow, not measured flow. Storm overflows: EA EDM 2025 annual return, overflows at the works only.

River systems are EA Water Framework Directive operational catchments (Cycle 3), grouped: Mole upper and lower are combined; the five works discharging to the tidal Thames (Beckton, Crossness, Mogden, Long Reach, Riverside) form "Tidal Thames (London)"; the Cotswold Coln is its own system, "Coln (Cotswolds)" (works in the two Coln water-body catchments: Andoversford, Withington, Bibury and Fairford discharge to the river; Whittington, Council House Site and Pike Hill Road to a ditch or groundwater in its catchment), kept apart from the Hertfordshire "Colne (Herts)"; "Upper", "Middle" and "Lower Thames" are the reaches source–Lechlade, Goring–Marlow and Maidenhead–Staines with their tributaries; Deephams, Beddington and the two Hogsmill permits form "London rivers". Rivers: EA WFD river water bodies; below Teddington the Thames line is drawn down the tidal water bodies and is approximate. Town positions and size bands are approximate, for orientation only.

Preview v1.2, 2 Oct 2026. Evidence layers and popups read from the supporting register (2 October 2026), joined on EA permit number, by a script that rebuilds them when the register changes.
